Q: What is the importance of UL Listed?

UL is an acronym for the Underwriters Laboratories. They are an independent product safety certification organization. A good summary used by UL is, "a not-for-profit organization dedicated to public safety." This means you can install these LEDs in commercial spaces, industrial applications, and in your home with peace of mind.

Q: What is the product warranty?

We offer a 5-year warranty on all of our LED strips. Our warranty on power supplies ranges from 2 to 7 years which is model dependent.

Q: What is the lifespan of your strip lights?

Our lights have been rigorously tested and have an expected lifespan of 50,000 hours before dropping to 70% luminosity. This means that if you were to use your lights 12 hours a day, every day, the lights would be expected to last longer than 10 years. Even after that time has elapsed, the lights will maintain a brightness of 70%.
Higher-output strips require a heat sink to reach the expected lifespan.

Q: What is color temperature?

The color of light can be quantified by referring to its color temperature. White light is measured in Kelvins (K). Most white lights fall in a spectrum between 1800K and 6500K. When falling below 3000K, the light is noticeably warmer. On the other end of the spectrum, the lights have a blue-ish tint and cooler tone when passing above 6500K.

Q: Which color temperature should I choose?

Choosing the correct color temperature lights for your project is very important, and as important as the brightness you choose. Consider the look and feel you want your project to have. What other color lights will be present? What material and color are the materials you wish to light? We can help you choose!

Q: What is a 3014 SMD LED chip?

3014 SMD (Surface Mounted Diode) represents the size of the LED chips on the strip. A 3014 SMD chip measures at 3.0mm x 1.4mm. Click here for more information on LED chip sizes.

Q:What are lumens (lm)?

This is a quantifiable amount of light produced by an LED strip or other light-producing product. This is how we measure light output.

Q: Do you sell your outdoor rated lights by the foot?

No, we do not. We stock out IP65 outdoor rated lights in 8’ or 16’ lengths. For certain projects, we may be able to produce special lengths for you. Please let us know your requirements. IP68 waterproof strips are available in 16’ lengths that may be special ordered and subject to a one month manufacturing lead time.

Q: What are the recommendations on adhering outdoor-rated strip lights?

All of our outdoor-rated lights come with mounting brackets. The strip also has a 3M adhesive on the back. We recommend using both for the most secure installation. They can also be installed within a mounting channel.

Q: What does IP mean? What is the difference between IP65 and IP68?

This is a rating system that defines the ability of a product to be able to work in different environments. IP is an acronym "Ingress Protection". It is a measurement of the protection an item will have against solid objects (dust, sand, dirt, etc.) and liquids.
An IP rating is comprised of 2 numbers. The first number refers to the protection against solid objects (dust, etc) and the second number refers to protection against liquids. Read an article on IP ratings, here.

Q: Can I cut reels that are outdoor rated IP65?

Yes. Be sure to reseal the strip light each time it’s cut to prevent water damage. A lot of clients like to use a liquid electrical tape.

Q: How flexible are these outdoor strips?

The IP65 is flexible like a measuring tape. Because we use a soft silicone sleeve to make the strip water resistant, it is still very flexible.

Q: What is the maximum run length of the UltraBright™ lights before voltage drop?

Maximum continuous string of lighting in series: 16ft 5in (5m)
Longer connections are possible in parallel with the correct power unit.  What is voltage drop?

Q: Which Power Supply do I need for my (x) feet of LEDs

The length of LED strip lights of your project will determine the size of the power supply you need. View our Power Supply chart to find the exact LED power supply you need.

Q: Which wire gauge do I need?

Different setups require different wire gauges (wire thickness) for safety and performance. The current and run length will determine the exact gauge of wire needed for your project. Read here for more information on how to select the correct wire gauge for your LED strip light installation as well as managing voltage drop.

Q: How do I mount the lights

The 3M double sided adhesive that is found on the back of the LED strip allows you to install them in most locations. Be sure to thoroughly clean the surface to remove all dust and particulate matter before mounting the strip. Certain surfaces may require you to take additional measures to secure the strips lights into place. Feel free to call us with any questions.

Q: Can I cut the strips myself?

Yes, LED strips are made to be cut to your desired length. Using sharp scissors, you can cut the strip every few inches (on a line that's marked after every third LED).

Q:Wow these are bright! What do I do if I want to dim my LED strip lights?

All LED strip lights are dimmable. The LED strips can be dimmed either through our dimmers [PWM dimming], or by a Lutron wall dimmer

To dim the lights you have two options:

  1. If you plan to dim your LED strips using a hardwired Lutron wall dimmer, you need a Zurik dimmable driver. This driver itself will be dimmed from the Lutron switch.

  2. If you do not plan to dim the lights from a hardwired wall dimmer and want to dim them with one of our dimmers, you will need a non-dimmable LED driver [Mean Well or Flexfire LEDs Brand]

  1. rv patio light

replaced a to dim patio light with a flexfire strip light. Good thing I got a dimmer nice to have to bright a light for a change and be able to dim it to level needed

  2. Beware if ordering from Canada!

Posted by Jordan on 19th Mar 2017

Although I've yet to hook these lights up, the build quality and components I ordered with them all seem top notch. Extremely well packaged, no chance of damage in shipping at all. However, I really wish I would have known I'd be hit with an extra $100 in charges when the UPS guy showed up at my door. Probably would have tried to source something else locally had I known the true cost of these lights!

  3. Now I need more!

Posted by Terry Tracy on 13th Oct 2016

Once I finally got around to installing the outdoor BW LED strips on the underside of the kitchen cabinets, we liked them so much that I have been asked to add some more to the top of the cabinets as well. By the way, I used solid bell wire on three of the smaller segments which was not such a good idea. The tension on the soldered connection tore the copper pad loose on two of the shortest segments when I rotated them to mount sticky side up on the bottom of the cabinet.

  4. Solid product, great customer service

Posted by Jon Gilmore on 3rd Oct 2016

Product is awesome, and 100x better quality than the other cheap amazon/ebay garbage that I've bought in the past. Customer service both before and after the sale were awesome as well. For my next project, I will absolutely be going to FlexFire LEDs!

  5. Exactly what I wanted to brighten my work van!

Posted by Unknown on 30th Jan 2016

Product has exceeded my expectations. Provides plenty of light.
One negative on packaging: the protective tube is actually too short by about 1 inch when taken from 16 ft reel.

  6. Great choice for boat lighting

Posted by Unknown on 24th Jul 2015

I replace the fascia fluorescent lights with this led lights and looks awesome and gave a better illumination than the fluorescent.

that is because a choose a LED with more Fc than fluorescent and also because with this led the shadows between lights are gone.

  7. Create a WOW effect in your Kitchen with quality LEDs

Posted by Jeremy C. on 21st Apr 2015

Top notch product and friendly customer service! I was in the market for ‘quality’ LED light strips and a Dimmable Magnetic driver that was UL certification and allowed me to use a Lutron dimmable dimmer switch. Well look no further, I highly recommend this product for under kitchen cabinet lighting. After speaking to customer service we agreed for my application that the Ultra Bright Warm White was perfect for my needs. The quality of the light and spacing of the LEDs has really created the WOW effect I was looking for, for everyday task lighting and entertaining. I decided to go with the Outdoor design Ultra Bright which added a plastic sleeve overtop to protect from splashing etc. As for installation it was not complicated…I think the planning and fishing of wire behind my cabinets took the longest. Once I had the electrical wiring complete and the Lutron switch wired to the Driver, it was a matter of soldering the strips together or using the Quick Connectors to go from strip to strip. In the end, I had 11 turns as the light strips followed the face of the cabinets. The results…exactly what I was looking for! I wish I could have upload some images of my final project because seeing is believing. Now the question is, where else in my house can I install another set of Flexfire LEDs?! hmmmm

  8. Look Great

Posted by Unknown on 18th Dec 2014

Light look great when installed and add a lot of functional lighting under kitchen cabinets. The waterproof covering has to be cut back in areas where connectors are used, which makes them not longer waterproof in those areas.

  9. As described and very impressive

Posted by Unknown on 28th Apr 2014

These LEDs were very bright and easy to work with. The ability to cut every inch or so makes it easy to build different conformations. The soldering connectors were easy to work with. I build an LED backlight array (5inch by 8 inch) that ended up with 240 LEDs. It works great for high speed imaging both as a back light and a front light.
