LED Solderless Connector Short tutorial: (photo tutorial below)

  1. Cut along the mark line, tear a little bit 3M backing tape from the mark.
If 3M tape is not peeled off a little, it will not be easy to insert the strip into the connector.

  2. Pull the black plastic lock out from the LED solderless connector.
  3. Insert strip into the LED solderless connector. There are two sides to the connecting tray. Make sure the wider of the white sides faces up. This is the top.
  4. Make sure the soldering pads fully touch the conjunction metal.
  5. Do not use to much strength while pulling the plastic lock, otherwise it can destroy the LED solderless connector.
  6. Push the plastic lock back towards the middle in the lock position. Be gentle and make sure the mounting tray is securely closed or the lights will not light up.

If your lights do not light up

  1. Color does not always matter! Make sure you are follow the positive side of the flex strip down through the solderless connector wire to the power supply. Red/black can either mean (+) or (-) depending on what side of the LED strip you have hooked the connector up to.
  2. Another common problem is that the LED solderless connector may be installed upside down, repeat steps above and try again.
  3. Also, make sure the tray is closed all the way. If the lights slip out of the connector it is not closed all the way. Be gentle!
  4. Check your power supply and make sure it is hooked up correctly and correct + and - too.

  1. Easy to use

    Posted by on

I was going to solder the wires but after trying the connectors found they were easy to use and worked well.

  2. If You Know How to Solder then Skip the Strip to Strip Connectors

    Posted by on

I thought these connectors would enable a quick and easy strip-to-strip connection..but I was wrong. Between breaking off the black trays, having difficulty getting the LED strip into the connector, and then not getting a reliable connection I gave up. Instead I soldered short lengths of 22 gauge stranded wire between strips. Soldering took longer, but it eliminated the frustration.

  3. strip to strip connectors are finicky

    Posted by on

I've found that about 20% of the strip to strip connectors don't work very easily and I just use a different one because it takes too long to make it work. A snap style fitting may be preferable, something that holds more solidly.
