RGB RGBW DMX Lite Controller for LED Strip Lights

RGB RGBW DMX Lite Controller for LED Strip Lights
RGB / RGBW DMX Lite™ Controller

Introduction

If you are in need of a basic color-changing DMX controller that can control many, many fixtures all at once, then this is the controller for you! The RGB/RGBW DMX Lite™ Controller is a stylish, wall mounted controller that is capable of producing its own Wi-Fi signal to be used in conjunction with a phone app available on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Control up to three different zones of lighting by addressing your DMX decoders to the desired zone. Works with RGB and RGBW strip lights and is able to be used either in conjunction with the phone app or as a standalone controller. Please Note: This controller runs off of 12-24V DC power, so a small dedicated power supply is required for it in addition to any drivers that you may be using to power your strip lights.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why use DMX?

If you have very specific control requirements, a large amount of fixtures to control all at once, or set-ups that require multiple zones or areas, then DMX is a good fit for your project. DMX can control many different pieces of DMX equipment such as lighting equipment, smoke machines, projectors, dimmers, etc. from a central location. In addition, fewer cables are used saving setup time and cost.

Q: How do you control DMX?

First you need to determine how many lighting zones or areas you wish to control independently. Each one of those zones or areas needs its own DMX address, so a DMX decoder can send a signal to control it. A single DMX universe can control up to 512 channels. Some controllers have only a single DMX universe while others have multiple. Single-color LEDs require a single channel to send instructions to dim or brighten your light, or to switch it on and off, but Dynamic Tunable White, RGB and RGB+W each have different channel requirements to control the brightness of each adjustable color. For example, an RGB LED strip will use three of the 512 channels within a single DMX universe, one for red, one for green and one for blue.

Q: Is this controller compatible with any LED strip light?

This unit is designed to be compatible with any constant voltage RGB or RGBW fixture. If you are using a fixture that has a built-in DMX addressing function (like a DMX wall washer or flood light) you can hook it directly into the controller, but if you are using a product such as a strip light or light bar, you will need to add a DMX decoder between the light and the controller.

Q: Can I install the controller outdoors?

These products are not outdoor rated. Keep them indoors, and avoid exposure to moisture or direct sunlight.

Q: When would I use this controller as opposed to using a programmable DMX controller?

The DMX Lite™ Controllers are perfect to use on installations where you have a lot of lights that all need to do the same thing at the same time. For example: If you have 30 DMX controlled lights on the perimeter of a building and you just want to be able to use a color wheel and make them all a certain color at any given time, this is a great controller. But if you need a DMX controller that can have each of the 30 lights changing a different specific color at a specific time, then you would need to upgrade to a controller that allows for programmable scenes.
